THE WINE

The Volnay 1er Cru "Fremiets" 2015 from Marchand & Tawse is a refined and beautifully structured Pinot Noir that captures the unique character of this Premier Cru vineyard, situated on the border of Volnay and Pommard. The exceptional 2015 vintage delivers remarkable concentration while preserving the elegance for which Volnay is celebrated. Aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, and violet are layered with notes of sweet spice, forest floor, crushed stone, and a subtle earthy complexity. The palate is silky yet powerful, with vibrant red fruit framed by finely woven tannins and bright acidity. A distinctive limestone-driven minerality brings precision and freshness, while discreet oak ageing adds depth without overshadowing the wine's purity. The finish is long, persistent, and harmonious, revealing layers of floral perfume, savoury spice, and refined structure. Now reaching an excellent stage of maturity, it offers both immediate drinking pleasure and the capacity for continued ageing. 

THE WINEMAKER

Marchand & Tawse was founded through the partnership of renowned Burgundian winemaker Pascal Marchand and Canadian vintner Moray Tawse, combining generations of Burgundian expertise with a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The domaine farms its vineyards with meticulous attention to soil health and vine balance, allowing each climat to express its individual character with clarity and precision. In the cellar, fruit is handled with minimal intervention through careful sorting, gentle extraction, spontaneous fermentations, and thoughtful use of whole clusters where appropriate. Ageing in French oak is deliberately restrained to preserve freshness, texture, and terroir expression. The resulting wines are recognised for their purity, balance, and elegance, marrying classical Burgundian finesse with a modern emphasis on transparency and site-specific identity.
