THE WINE

The 2022 Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau “Les Fourneaux” from Bachey-Légros is a remarkably deep and distinctive Pinot Noir sourced from a tiny parcel of centenarian vines planted in 1914. The nose is layered and expressive, revealing aromas of ripe cherries, wild raspberries, blackberries, violets, and subtle notes of spice, earth, and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine combines impressive concentration with exceptional finesse, delivering silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable depth of fruit. The old vines bring intensity and complexity, while the limestone-rich soils lend freshness, precision, and mineral tension. Samuel Bachey and Lénaïc Bachey lead the sixth generation of Domaine Bachey-Légros, a historic family estate based in the heart of Santenay. Working with some of the appellation’s oldest and most prized vineyard holdings, they focus on meticulous vineyard management, low yields, and traditional Burgundian élevage to highlight the individuality of each site. Their approach emphasizes balance, purity, and terroir expression, producing wines that combine concentration with elegance.
